Rest period

DE Deutsch EN English

Lonely and yet not alone, this is what a holiday offer could look like! Summer vacation in Maldives, in Spain or in Germany! Days of rest, contemplation and relaxation. Be free from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Man needs both work and rest

And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
Mark 6,31 (ESV)

If you don’t find time to relax, you won’t find inner peace. Often we read; that Jesus went with his disciples into a deserted area, or that he escaped alone. When they wanted to make him king, he withdrew to the mountain and stayed there by himself. According to John 6:15

Two dangers threaten our lives:
  • First: too much activity
  • Secondly: too much seclusion

Anyone who works needs to take a break. But fellowship with God does not mean avoiding fellowship with people. The rhythm of the Christian life is that we alternately seek God in silence and seek out people in the marketplace of life.

Whoever has Jesus cannot remain hidden!

Jesus left Galilee and went north to the territory of Tire. He tried to hide the fact that he was there, but couldn’t. News of his arrival spread quickly.

A woman whose daughter was possessed by an evil spirit heard this. She came and fell at his feet. Jesus had mercy and healed the child.

And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.
Mark 7,30 (ESV)

Helpless people must recognize their need and come to Jesus.
If we have Jesus, HE cannot remain hidden in us.

You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all.
2 Corinthians 3,2. (ESV)

People want to see our good works – they look at our way of life – and whether we are a good example.

As the hidden violet in the grass is not hidden by its scent; so Christ cannot remain hidden in us. Whoever accepts Jesus into his life, he gives peace and inner peace of heart!

When some people pass us by uncomprehendingly and unlovingly, Jesus stops. We can complain to him of every need! He knows and loves us. He understands us and knows what troubles us.

What no man can do, Jesus does. Let’s get to him today. He hears us when we pray and gives us his peace and quiet of heart.

In his farewell speech, Jesus says:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14,27 (ESV)
