Our brief events make it clear. There is a biblical book that explains what love really is.
The following story is told from the biblical book of Ruth:
Here we encounter a tough refugee lot. Widow’s grief – three women whose lives have fallen into cold and shadow. Naomi learns that the drought in Bethlehem is over and she is determined to go home.
She goes home with her daughters-in-law. On the lonely border between two countries, the old mother-in-law Naomi is also ready for the last sacrifice, namely complete solitude. She asks Orpah and Ruth: Stay in your country where you were born, in Moab.
No, my daughters, for it is exceedingly bitter to me for your sake that kthe hand of the Lord has gone out against me.” Ruth 1,13b (ESV)
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law and said goodbye, but Ruth stayed with her. She was ready to live with Naomi.
But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” Ruth 1,16-17 (ESV)
It was harvest time in Bethlehem. Ruth decided to glean ears of corn. She bent down from morning to evening. She did not know that this field belonged to Boaz. Boaz was surprised when he saw Ruth. He asked his servant, To whom does this girl belong? It is a Moabite woman who came with Naomi from the land of Moab.
Boaz said to Ruth, You shall not go to another field to glean; stay close to my girls. I commanded my servants that no one should touch you. And if you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink.
Then Ruth fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground and said, How have I found favor in your sight that you have been kind to me?
You left your father and mother and your fatherland and went to a people you didn’t know before. May the Lord (God) reward you for your deeds, and may your reward be perfect by the Lord God of Israel, to whom you have come to have refuge under his wings.
Ruth said: Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken to me kindly.
Boaz said to her: It is dinner time, come here and eat and drink. strengthen yourself! You can also pick up ears of corn in my field throughout the harvest season.

God’s Word is like a mirror. He speaks to us through his word. We are allowed to look in, read and discover what is helpful, what we should pay attention to and what we should do. The Bible is a bestseller whose author knows everyone’s name.
