Comprehensive Savior Love
1. God's authority to forgive
It is amazing how this Bible verse emphasizes the double "I, I." God makes the importance clear here. Only God can forgive sins through Jesus Christ, provided that he is approached with a repentant heart.
The Apostle Paul also clearly emphasizes about this forgiving authority of God: how Christ forgives us everything and we receive forgiveness without merit. Only we ourselves can stand in our way. According to Romans 8:31-39.
2. The shifting of guilt
After the story of creation, we read how Eve blamed the serpent. Adam emphasized that God had given him the seductress Eve. Today, it's often always the others who are guilty: the parents, the employee, the boss, the neighbor or the partner, everyone is guilty except me.
3. At the cross on Golgotha, the blame-shifting comes to an end
Bonhoeffer writes in his book "Ethics" about guilt, "I am guilty of infidelity and apostasy towards Christ. What does it matter to me whether others are also guilty? I can excuse every sin of another, only my own sin remains guilt, which I can never excuse myself."
4. Song
The cross on which Jesus once died is the place where he acquired salvation. His grace flows freely, as free as a river and deep is the spring, so hurry and come.
Chorus: At the cross there is still room for you! Some have already come, accepted the rescue. Yes, there is still room for you on the cross.
Many a person has found a friend there, has wept in remorse and repentance when he saw Jesus there, innocent on Golgotha, sacrificed for sinners, therefore: Salvation is there.
(Traudl & Richard Gastmann)
5. Be courageous and confess your sins to God
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
Those who have come to terms with the guilt of the past in this way are free for a new chapter in life, are free for the future and every relationship. Guilt receives its answer in Christ and falls silent.
Jesus Christ is the great offer of God. Whoever seizes it has the precious treasure for time and eternity (Gerhard Bergmann).
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
Hebrew 10:14 (ESV)
Our salvation was only the prelude to a process of creation in our lives that will only be completed in eternity.
If you believe in the Son of God, who died on the cross for your sin, then you have eternal life. According to John 5:24a.
