God's good thoughts

1. Thinking is a gift from our Creator.

For us humans, thinking is a mental activity. One imagines something and analyzes it. We have good and also bad thoughts, in a multitude. God's thoughts are infinitely greater, incomparable to human thoughts.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!  “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” Romans 11:33-34 (ESV)

2. Jeremiah's written message

He writes: Thus speaks the Lord the Almighty God of Israel, to all the exiles whom he has sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon. Pay attention to my instructions and carry them out. Acc. Jeremiah 29:1-4

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 29:7 (ESV)

The time of captivity has been made known. Seventy years will the rule of the Babylonians over the Israelites last. After that, I will bring my promise to fulfillment and bring you back to your land.

3. God reveals His thoughts

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[2] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)

Three significant statements:

a. I have peace with you in mind!

Peace, a deep supernatural state of inner calm, security, and harmony. It arises in connection with God. A gift from God for us humans, regardless of external circumstances.

Words of Jesus to his disciples:

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (ESV)

b. I want to free you from suffering

I want to free you from a situation of pain, sorrow, the distress of inner suffering. It is a picture of a path to healing. God leads people through His love and grace out of suffering.

When my beloved brother suddenly passed away at the age of 21 due to a motorcycle accident, it was a deep inner pain. It was May 31, the sun warmed the land, but for me, it was dark.

The healing from the pain happened slowly. During a lesson, the sentence was mentioned: We Christians are not on a minefield; we are redeemed. This does not mean we are constantly waiting for the next painful experience.

Also, the word from the Bible encouraged me:
Do not fear what you are about to suffer.   Revelation 2:10a (ESV)

When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.. Psalm 91:15 (ESV)

c. I give you back future and hope.

I give you back the future and hope is a powerful comforting sentence, comfort, confidence, a positive outlook on what is to come. I give you: hope, a gift, an element of heaven. A hope that brings fulfillment and a perspective, a life that goes on – despite difficulties or crises.

Hope is a divine promise for us Christians. It is an encouragement not to give up. It is a promise that difficult times are not the end.

4. A promise at 100%

No matter what situation we find ourselves in, God's word shows us the way.

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.Jeremiah 29:12-13 (ESV)

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:8a (ESV)

These verses teach us that God answers honest and persistent searches.
