Dialogue between grandmother and grandson

God has given us much. Paul writes to Timothy:

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
2 Timothy 1:5 (ESV)

1. WhatsApp dialogue between grandmother and grandson

Grandma: "Dear grandson, I would be so happy if you could make an exception this weekend and stay with us until Sunday. I bought a large piece of meat and would love to serve you."

Grandson: "Yes, I've decided to stay until Sunday after all, so we can spend some more quality time together."

Grandma: "Grandson, you are a treasure to me. I cherish spending time with you."

Grandson: "That's wonderful! Hello Grandma! May Giulia also celebrate Christmas with us? She would love to meet you, and we would like to stay for two nights."

Grandma: "Grandson, yes, of course. We're looking forward to meeting you."

Grandson: "Great! I'll let you know."

Grandma: "Hello grandson, could you please tell us which days you and Giulia will be visiting us? Thank you."

Grandson: "Hello Grandma, we would like to spend December 23rd and 24th with you."

Grandma: "Okay, welcome! Please let me know what time you'll be there. Hello grandson, we've reserved a table for December 23rd. Grandpa and I are celebrating our 68th wedding anniversary."

Grandson: "Hello Grandma! That's wonderful, we're so happy for you. We're really looking forward to seeing you again."

Grandma: "Grandson, thank you for the wonderful news that you're getting engaged and want to walk your path together. To love Jesus and have Him with you in your life together."

Grandson: "I've sent you a video."

Grandma: "Hello grandson, I watched your video again after your message. You prepared so well. To capture this memory of your special day for later, of your great love."

Grandson: "Thank you, Grandma, and best wishes from Giulia too!"

2. Grandchildren are special

Grandchildren feel comfortable around their grandparents.

Grandchildren are like crowns on their grandparents' heads. For kings, a crown is a symbol of royalty, honor, recognition, and responsibility.

3. What does God's Word say about grandchildren?

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.
Proverbs 17:6 (ESV)

May you see your children’s children! Peace be upon Israel!
Psalm 128:6 (ESV)

The significance of the crown for grandparents. They possess a divine power of love, which manifests itself through recognition and appreciation. Grandchildren need a lot of attention. They learn by example from their grandparents. They need not only words but also values.

4. Our responsibility as grandparents

God's word provides the answer. Moses gives God's instruction to the people of Israel:

How on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.
Deuteronomy 4:10 (ESV)

A Maskil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth!
Psalm 78:1 (ESV)

We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.
Psalm 78:4 (ESV)

That the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;
Psalm 78:6+7 (ESV)

Blessings to all grandfathers and grandmothers!
